Davie Kaplan Update Regarding Postponed Filing and Payment Deadline for Federal Income Taxes

March 23, 2020

Dear Clients and Friends:

I hope you are doing well and staying healthy during these difficult times.

Effective March 20, 2020 both the filing and payment deadlines for Federal income taxes have been postponed from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020 for all taxpayers.  This was made official by IRS Notice 2020-18.  1st quarter estimated tax payments due April 15, 2020 were also postponed to July 15, 2020.  NY’s governor has indicated the state will follow Federal deadlines but nothing formal has been issued as of yet however, we expect a similar official postponement in the near future.

There are still several questions that arise in conjunction with the postponed filing deadline.  We expect clarifying guidance to be released in the near future and we will inform you as soon as possible.

Our Davie Kaplan family is forging ahead in these uncertain times primarily by working remotely.  We ask for your patience and understanding in this new and evolving process.  We apologize for any inconvenience.  To that end, please continue to provide information for your returns and we will discuss our timing with you.

Another relief package is currently being deliberated in Congress which could potentially contain several, significant tax provisions as well as other measures.  Once this is official we expect another similar communication regarding that and hopefully more guidance about the postponed filing and payment deadlines.

Thank you for your continued trust and confidence.
